Jazz History
The Jazz began play in 1974 in New Orleans. Five years later the team was moved to Salt Lake City, Utah. The name Jazz, specific to New Orleans, was never changed for reasons which no one really seems to know. Larry Miller bought the Jazz in 1985 and changed venues in 1991 from The Salt Palace to the Delta Center. In 1984 Utah drafted John Stockton from Gonzaga University in Washington; Karl Malone was drafted the following year from Louisiana Tech. These two superstars have formed the nucleus of the team ever since. Stockton and Malone were named to the 50 Greatest Players in NBA history in 1996 and Malone was named NBA regular season Most Valuable Player in 1997 and 1999. The Jazz have made the playoffs 17 straight years, won the Midwest Division times, and the Western Conference twice.

About the Webmaster
I'm not your typical Jazz fan. I grew up in a medium sized city in Ohio and still live nearby. I became a Jazz fan in the late 80's when I was idly watching a playoff game between Utah and Denver. I was not much of a fan of the game of basketball at the time, but the play, hustle, and execution of Stockton and Malone changed my mind forever. I have been an avid fan of Utah Jazz basketball ever since. My favorite moment in Jazz history is the end of Game 6 of the 1997 Western Conference Finals when John Stockton hit the 3-pointer at the buzzer to win the game and the series.
